Credit Counselling
Credit counselling is an option if you can still pay your debts but need a plan. We will review your situation and advise if this makes sense for you.
If it does, we can help you obtain a debt consolidation loan or make arrangements with creditors to pay your debts over time.
Understanding Credit Counselling
Credit counselling is a combination of tools to solve your debt problem:
- Help with budgeting so you can manage your money and achieve your goals
- Help to arrange a debt consolidation loan that combines all your debts into one loan with one monthly payment, often at a lower interest rate than you are paying now
- Help making informal arrangements with creditors to make payments you can afford. (Often this option is tried when someone cannot get a debt consolidation loan.)
Informal Arrangements with Creditors
You may have debts you cannot pay in full, but still have enough income to pay creditors more than they would get in
bankruptcy. In this case, reasonable terms of repayment may be the best solution for everyone.
We can review your financial situation and help you decide if this is your best option. If it is, we will advise you on
negotiating with your creditors.
Credit counselling is the first and least drastic debt solution. With credit counselling there are no legal filings and your
credit rating is not automatically affected.
